From the Principal
The end of Term 1 is upon us, and it’s a time for reflection and celebration. We’ve had another highly successful term with many fantastic achievements. Thank you to our families who have supported our students to arrive at school each day, dressed smartly in school uniform and prepared for each day of learning. I would also like to thank carers, grandparents and family friends who regularly support many families and students when they require it. Your positive and ongoing communication and assistance does not go unnoticed, and we are very grateful for your partnership as we all work together to improve the lives and futures of our students.
Staff Appreciation
Our staff members go above and beyond to support our students both academically, socially and emotionally on a daily basis. Their commitment is commendable, and I express my gratitude and appreciation to each of them, I know I say this often, but I am very fortunate to work with, and lead such an outstanding team.
End of term Assembly
Thank you to families and friends who joined us last Friday to celebrate achievements of many of our students as well as an outstanding snippet of learning from 1-2Sims and 3-4Parker. I was so impressed to see such enthusiasm and confidence while sharing their learning with such high quality and interactive learning experiences. Congratulations to both classes!
I mentioned at the assembly that we are focussed on acknowledging and celebrating personal best effort – this means that student are not expected to be the best or have the best results. We are focused on all students sharing growth and improvements. If in attendance at the assembly, you may have noticed that our end of term certificates are awarded for ‘Effort and Application’ and our new ‘Hilly High 5!’ awards recognised learning at any stage during a teaching and learning cycle. It has been fantastic to see students receiving a Hilly High 5 for a whole range of reasons. See our Term 1 Hilly High 5 winners below.
I would also like to recognise our certificate recipients for:
- Effort and Application for Maths and English,
- Hilly Kids are Friendly Kids,
These students have attendance above 99.5% for Term 1.
Congratulations to P-1 Bonney and 1-2 Sims who have the highest class attendance rate for the school – 92%
Attendance continues to be a high and an ongoing focus for our school, we expect every child to be at school if they are well, every school day!
A reminder to keep an eye on our ‘Important Dates’ as we will be regularly updating and adding new events and activities for Term 2 as they come up.
We look forward to seeing our students and families on the return to school on Monday 29 April. I wish everyone a safe and happy school holiday break!
In partnership,
Georgia

Get Excited for Footsteps…….
In Term 2 we are thrilled to have the team from Footsteps visiting Hillcrest each Wednesday. All students in Prep-6 will participate in fun, high energy sessions. We look forward to celebrating and performing at the end of the term to an audience of families and friends!
What’s been happening in Kinder Lewis
Our kinder students have been super excited the past two week as our new playground has been completed. Our new seesaw, slide, swings and free-play areas have provided the students with much enjoyment, as well as the opportunity to engage in many gross motor and social skills which are an integral part of early childhood development. We asked our kinder students what they enjoyed the most about the playground, and this is what they said:
Ollie S: “I love the seesaw because there are lots of people that go on there and it’s fun.”
Chevi: “I like the swings because I have a friend and I play with them.”
Aria: “I like the slide because it goes really fast with Jimmy and Isaac.”
Maverick: “I love the seesaw because it goes up high.”
Our students did some drawings to show their favourite part of the new playground.
I think it’s safe to say that our kinders think they are very lucky to have such a wonderful new playground!
Hilly Kids Read Everywhere
To acknowledge Term 1's value of Respect we celebrated different ways students show respect when reading. A student from each class was chosen by their teacher and received a certificate at the final assembly. They also chose a book from our mobile book shop.
Congratulations Grace, Harli, Charlie, Riley, Harper, Oliver, Abby and Lola.
Next term we will be celebrating the value of Responsibility.
