From the Principal
As we reach our halfway point of this school term, it is my pleasure to share many highlights. Firstly, I would like to congratulate all of the students who have successfully completed their Swimming and Water Safety Program. Your dedication and hard work in mastering these essential skills are commendable. I was really pleased to hear that student behaviour was excellent, and many students made significant progress over their 5 or 10 day program.
A special thank you goes out to the family members, staff, and students who participated in meetings with our External School Review panel, Brett and Paula. We are delighted to have received excellent commendations and insightful recommendations, which will guide our efforts for further improvement over the next four years. Our panel members were capably greeted by Heath and Maddison on their first day and taken on a tour of our beautiful school. Thank you, Heath and Maddi, for taking this important role!
Last Friday, we held our mid-term assembly. It was wonderful to see so many family members and friends join us for this event. Congratulations to the students who received class awards, recognising their improvement, growth, and responsibility across various areas within our school environment. Your achievements are a testament to your perseverance, and commitment to excellence.

Congratulations to Laylah who was presented with the Soroptimist Devonport Bright Eyes Scholarship. Soroptimist Devonport provide a scholarship for a Year 6 female student to put towards the costs of extracurricular, and outside of school activities. We’re very appreciative to have this opportunity, thank you to Alana Walker, committee member and HPS school liaison of Soroptimist Devonport for coming along to present this award to Laylah!
This week we have held our 3-Way conferences. These are a great opportunity to meet with class teachers to hear about progress in learning, and areas for further development. These 3-Way conferences are part of our Reporting and Communicating Learning Progress with Families. At the end of this term, you will also receive a mid-year report for students in Prep-Grade 6.
The key benefits of a 3-Way conference are:
- Student Accountability: Students take responsibility for their learning by discussing their progress and setting future goals. Students have focused attention on learning challenges that lead to better outcomes.
- Communication: Teachers, parents, and students share insights, leading to a better understanding of the student's needs.
- Stronger Relationships: Builds trust and cooperation between teachers and parents, students hear firsthand that families and staff work in a partnership to support them.
- Increased Engagement: Parents become more involved, and students feel more supported and motivated.
- Emotional Learning: Students and parents have the opportunity to discuss wellbeing, contributing to increased social and emotional outcomes.
These conferences create a supportive environment that benefits the student's learning and personal development. If you have anything you would like to discuss without your child present, please make an appointment with your child’s teacher.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication to making our school a thriving learning environment. Let's continue to work together to achieve great things in the second half of the term.
In partnership,
Georgia

What’s been happening in 1-2 Shephard
In Year 1/2 we have been busy creating our own narratives. After learning about the parts of a story we designed our own character, setting, problem and solution. We are currently in the finishing and editing stages of our writing but are hoping to have a published copy by next week! Come in and check out our planning that has been put up in the classroom, and maybe even get a sneak peek at someone’s story too!
