From the Principal

Many of you may have noticed our new ‘Buddy Bench’ that has been placed above the netball court, kindly donated by Devonport Chiropractic. This is a great place for students who have not got a friend to play with, to sit and wait for someone to come and invite them to play. I encourage all students to use the buddy bench! A big thanks to Devonport Chiropractic, for their kind donation.

A reminder that we will soon be placing students in classes for 2018. If you have any particular requests, please make an appointment with me through the school office prior to Friday, November 17th. We try and meet requests where possible, but a range of factors contribute to how classes are structured.

If families are aware of any children in our area who will be turning 4 by January 1st, 2018, please encourage them to enquire about enrolling in our Kinder for next year. Your support is appreciated!

As you are no doubt aware, there have been many changes to school and department policy in line with the new Education Act. We will keep you informed of these changes as they occur. Our School Association Committee have submitted our new School Association Constitution, have reviewed the Out of Area Enrolment Procedure and have made additions to the new model Attendance Policy and Process.

Hilly Kids Are Friendly Kids

Our HKFK focus for this week has been Having a Go. Our focus topics for the next two weeks will be Doing Your Best and Fixing Things Up.

Doing Your Best

It is important to do your best in everything that you do! It involves developing personal qualities of never giving up, having another go and being persistent if you don't achieve it the first time.

By always doing your best, you can feel proud, knowing that there was nothing more that you could have done to achieve your goal. It doesn't matter whether you come first or last, it’s more important to know that you did your very best in whatever you are doing!

Fixing Things Up

From time to time we make mistakes. At times we make these mistakes accidentally, at other times we are careless or occasionally we simply choose to do something we should not. Mistakes are a normal part of growing up and, if we learn from our mistakes, we end up better in the end.

Learning to fix things up after mistakes is a difficult thing to do, but it is so important. Fixing things up means repairing the damage you have caused to someone or something. It means you take responsibility for what has happened and, through your actions, prove to others and yourself that you know you have made a mistake and you want to improve the situation.

Be prepared to say sorry and then prove you are sorry by not letting it happen again. If something has been damaged, offer to fix it or replace it.

Take responsibility for your actions and be the first to say sorry; don’t wait until you have to apologise or be told to by someone else.

Our Hilly Kid of the Week for Being Positive was Chaise from P-1BE and for Seeing it Through was Toby from 4-5K. Congratulations, Chaise and Toby!

This week some parents of pre-kinder children participated in a St John’s Ambulance session about first aid in the home.

4-5 Kelly

Move Well Eat Well

Get Your Family Outside!

Here are some simple ways to become a more active family:

  • Be active together. Quality time isn’t time in front of the TV or eating takeaway food in the car. Plan some trips. Picnics are great or a day at the footy or cricket. Being active together will improve personal relationships and get your family communicating better.
  • Go for free family fun. Not all family activities cost you money. There are many free activities like a family walk or a game in the backyard or in the local park.
  • Explore ways to be an active family. Explore a national park, go bushwalking, bike ride together, go beachcombing!
  • Take part in community events. Help organise fun events in your community, volunteer for a litter clean-up or a working bee.
