From the Principal
As you are no doubt aware, teachers have been busy writing end-of-year reports. Reports will be sent home with information regarding classes, on Friday, 13th December. If you have any questions regarding reports, please ask your child’s teacher or contact the office.
A reminder that this Friday is Athletics Carnival day. Family members are more than welcome to come and cheer on the students. As it will be a windy day, don’t forget to bring a hat, sunscreen (and possibly a jacket). Shade will be provided for families and students on the day. Don’t forget also, to send your child with sunscreen! It is sure to be a fun day for everyone.
Our end of year Concert will be happening next Tuesday, 10th December. There will be a matinee and evening performance. Tickets will be sent home this week or can be collected from the office if that is what you indicated on the return slip. There are plenty of matinee tickets still available but all the evening tickets have been allocated. I am looking forward to two great performances.
Hilly Kids Are Friendly Kids
Our current fortnightly Hilly Kids focus is “Good Winners/Good Losers”. Our next focus topic will be “Celebrate!”
Celebrate
Reflection is a valuable skill that helps you see what you have achieved and how far you need to go to meet personal goals or skills. Reflection helps re-focus our ideas, skills and goals so that we can move forward in our learning. Reflection leads us to consider ways we may change to reach a personal, class, school or community outcome.
As we near the end of the year, we need to stop and see if our goals are meeting our needs. It is good to look back and see how our skills, attitude and work have progressed so we can celebrate the learning journey.
Reflection is a life-long skill that can be used to motivate us and it is good to share this reflection with classmates, parents and teachers. Congratulations to everyone on a great year and now it is time to celebrate and look forward to next year.
The last weeks of school present us with many opportunities to celebrate. There will be class parties, excursions, fun, games and the end of year assembly. Join in all the celebrations and enjoy yourselves! We have shared many good and a few difficult times over the year and it is now time to celebrate our achievements. Well done to all.
Our Hilly Kid for “Respecting People” was Klovi from 5-6F. Congratulations, Klovi, and well done to our other class representatives.

Last 2019 Storytime in the Library
The final Storytime for 2019 will be in the library straight after school today, Thursday December 5th. Mrs Peace will read “Pig the Elf”. Pig is always getting into some kind of trouble! Come along to find out what he’s up to this time!
Family Challenge
It’s not long now until the summer holiday break! Our Family Challenge for the end of term 4 is a fun art based activity. Detailed information will be sent out with children in the coming days so keep an eye out for it and start thinking creatively again! We know you can! Completed artworks can be brought to school at the start of term 1 next year for display and sharing.
Home Readers
Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement you give our students to help them achieve the best they can in all the reading they do. Regularly listening to and reading with your children as they share their Home Readers are ways you can do that. Please remember it’s time now to return all Home Readers. It doesn’t mean you have to stop reading at home though! There are hundreds of books to borrow from the library in the paranaple centre, re-read your favourite books at home, swap books with friends, op shops have shelves of books for sale at cheap prices … there really are many ways to access something to read.
Those who do not have their Working With Vulnerable People registration – Please come to the library and use our facilities to do this and I will be there to support you should you need help. Remember: if you wish to attend a class excursion or participate in parent help with your child/ren you are required to have a Working with Vulnerable People card.

Gardening with Kids
Through gardening children learn responsibility, self-confidence, creativity, co-operation, reasoning and discovery! It’s also a great way to get outside and active with children. Gardening doesn’t have to be expensive and, in the long run, can save you money on your shopping bills, provide wonderful, healthy fresh produce and keep you, and the kids, fit and active.
- You can create your own biodegradable pots from newspaper or cardboard tubes. Plant them straight into the earth and the ‘container’ will compost into the ground
- Make little propagation houses from clear plastic punnets with lids or plant protectors from plastic milk containers
- Use unusual or quirky containers: tea pots, old boots, wheelbarrows, etc
- Re-use the sandpit box and convert it to a garden bed if your child has grown out of it
- Old baths, packing cases and tyres of all sizes can all be used to create easy access raised beds.
