From the Principal

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your support as we keep you updated during these uncertain times. Please know that our staff are working extremely hard to ensure we are providing a safe space and sense of normality for our students. Our school continues to practice good hygiene with regular handwashing and we continue to maintain high levels of cleanliness during this time. Our Education Facility Attendants are doing an amazing job, as all of our staff are at this time.

School remains open and it is safe for your children to come to school. If your child is healthy they should attend and continue their learning. If you are choosing to keep your child at home, we also fully understand this decision. Our staff will provide home learning opportunities to help your child continue to learn from home so far as it is practical. Our teachers are working together to design ‘learning at home’ activities. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together on this.

We continue to receive regular updates from the Department Of Education and we will advise as new information becomes available.

Once again, thank you for your cooperation during this difficult time. If you have queries or concerns, please contact me or one of our school leadership team through the front office.

Susan Barnard - Principal

Hilly Kids Are Friendly Kids

Our current fortnightly Hilly Kids focus topic is “Taking Turns”.

Taking Turns

Almost every day at school we need to take our turn. Sometimes it is in the classroom and other times outside in the yard. In the class we may need to wait for our turn to see the teacher or to go on the computer. We need to take our turn at the canteen or for the drinking taps. In games we need to take our turns to bat, to bowl, to pick teams and all sorts of things.

Remember:

Do

  • wait patiently,
  • allow others to finish before you start,
  • give others a chance to have their go.

Don’t

  • push and shove,
  • push in,
  • always have to be first.

Our Hilly Kid for the ‘What is Bullying’ topic was Jye from 5-6F. Congratulations, Jye!

Well done to our other class representatives:

Thumbs Up Recipients

The following students have been awarded a ‘Thumbs Up’ card in recognition of an outstanding display of our school values. We are extremely proud of our Hilly Kids and we hope that if your child brings a ‘Thumbs Up’ card home, you are able to take the time to celebrate this award with them.

2-3 Peace

The First Seven Weeks of Team Peace 2020

Team Peace 2020 has been working hard on becoming a real team. We are beginning to work together well, help each other out and get along together, all while learning new expectations and routines.

Team Peace is full of Readers, Speakers, Writers, Spellers, Artists, Musicians, Questioners, Listeners, Collaborators and students who bubble over with kindness, respect and responsibility.

We took some to time to reflect on the year so far and would love to share some of our moments of pride, wonders/worries, things we are thankful for, a new goal and our wishes with you.

In addition there is some art inspired by our new addition...our class Beta fish (who is yet to be named!!!).

Hillcrest Tuckerbox

Vegetables and legumes (e.g. kidney beans, chickpeas and lentils) are a good source of vitamins, minerals and fibre. It is important that children eat a rainbow of different coloured vegetables every day.

Add vegetables to a range of different foods in your child’s lunchbox to keep it interesting. To increase vegetables in lunchboxes try these tips:

  • Vegetable sticks with dip
  • Vegetables added to muffins, pikelets, scones & mini pizzas
  • Salad in a container –celery, carrot & cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes, snow peas
  • Pasta salad or coleslaw
  • Frittata or quiche

Move Well Eat Well

Water contains no sugar and plain milk has only a small amount; therefore, they are the best choices for children. Compare the sugar content in a glass (250ml) of each of the drinks below! (1tsp = 4 grams of sugar).
