From the Principal

Thank You

As we near the holiday break I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our school community throughout the term. Our students have had a full term of learning and we have been so proud to listen to the stories of growth as the term has progressed. How wonderful it was to have many of you join us for our welcomed assemblies throughout this term! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for following our Covid processes while on site to ensure we are keeping our community safe.

External School Review

Last week, the External School Review team visited our school. The purpose of the External School Review is to support our school to raise achievement and high performance. All department schools undertake a review every four years. The review team met with our school staff, our students and some of our families. They also undertook observations in classrooms. At the end of the second day the panel met with our staff to share some of their findings. They spoke about our school’s real sense of community and belonging and the high level of professionalism, with both teachers and students sharing how they enjoyed and wanted to be at school. As a school and community this positive feedback is well deserved. We look forward to reviewing the final report which will be available towards the end of the year.

Planning is well underway …

Over the holiday break the construction team will be onsite redeveloping our early learning space. We are excited to be able to use this area in Term 4!

Hilly Kids are Friendly Kids

Our current fortnightly Hilly Kids focus topic is “Negotiating”. Our topic for weeks 1 & 2 of Term 4 will be “Communicating Positively”.

Communicating Positively

The words we choose to say are often determined by the environment we are in and the people to whom we are talking. Good communicators understand that we need to choose language that is positive and appropriate to various situations. Being able to work out what language is appropriate in a range of circumstances is important. We need to be aware of the needs of those around us and communicate in the best possible way.

Communicating positively is a great way to interact with those around us and being positive is a great attitude to have. Everyone enjoys being around positive people!

Our Hilly Kid for the ‘Teamwork’ topic from weeks 7 & 8 was Jackson from 1-2N and our Aussie of the Month for August was Ryan from 3-4B. Congratulations, Jackson and Ryan!

Well done to our other class representatives:

Fundraising BBQ

A big THANKYOU to everyone who supported our fundraising efforts by purchasing a sausage or a hamburger from the BBQ yesterday. We had a great time organising and running the event and made lots of money towards our Grade 6 Celebration shirts.

A huge THANKYOU to IGA Valley Road for generously donating sausages and bread for our day!

Tuckerbox Tips

Lunchboxes for Less

Packing a healthy lunchbox for school doesn’t need to be expensive. Try these tips:

  • Buy fruit and vegetables in season for the best value for money

  • Buy in bulk – tinned fruit, dried fruit, yoghurt and crackers are cheaper if you buy them in bulk, rather than single serve portions. Simply put the amount your child will eat into re-useable plastic containers
  • Keep ‘occasional’ foods, such as muesli bars, biscuits, chips and chocolate to a minimum. These foods are expensive. For example: apples in season cost about $4 per kilo whereas fruit straps cost about $35 per kilo!

Move Well Eat Well

Nature Play

So much to explore! Take up the “Spring Challenge” with your family during the school holidays!

  • Plant herbs or vegetables
  • Pick a bunch of flowers
  • Build a cubby or fort
  • Ride your bike in a bush area
  • Go on a bug hunt
  • Create a fairy or mini creatures garden
  • Identify at least 3 birds outdoors

Camps Tasmania Summer Camps

Camps Tasmania are running Summer Camps this January for youth aged 9-16, empowering young people to accept challenges, think for themselves, form friendships and develop skills in a welcoming, supportive and safe environment.

There are many benefits to attending Camps, including the opportunity to develop self-confidence, resilience, independence amongst many, leadership, communication and teamwork skills, all very valuable life skills.

Through our Summer Camp program, we encourage youth from across the state to make new connections, try different activities, disconnect from technology and enjoy the summer sun.
