Welcome Back!
Welcome back to Term 3! It has been a cold start to the term, so it is great to see so many students rugged up for the cold. We have a display of our winter uniform in the foyer of the Administration building, so feel free to drop in and have a look.
Jayden Wicks has started in his new role as HPE teacher at the school. We hope Jayden enjoys his time at Hillcrest Primary School and welcome him to the school community.
School Association
A reminder that our next School Association Meeting will be held this evening in the meeting room at school, starting at 7.00pm. Please feel free to contact the office for further information.

COVID-19 Check-in App
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back for Term 3. Following on from a direction from the Tasmanian Government, we now have some changed arrangements in place for parents and carers when visiting schools. You will now need to check in using the Check-in TAS app when entering school buildings; this includes classrooms, the office or the canteen, even if only for a very short time. Students are NOT required to check-in, these arrangements only apply to adults.
We have posters displayed in and around the school site with the QR code to use for checking in.
For those who do not have a smart phone and need to manually check-in, please come to the school office for assistance. We appreciate your support in ensuring we are doing the right thing.

Hilly Kids Are Friendly Kids
Our current Hilly Kids focus topic is Smile. Our next focus topic for term 3 will be Use Your Voice.
Use Your Voice
Along with body language, learning how we should use our voice is very important. Often it is not the words we say, but how we say them, that really lets people know how we feel. We can use the tone and volume of our voice to convey lots of messages. Just think about how many different ways you can say the word “no”.
Think about the way you use your voice to show people that you are friendly. Even when you have to say something that is difficult or you must disagree with someone, you can use your voice in a way that is fair and friendly, not mean or unfriendly. Perhaps in your class next week you can practise using your voice in different ways and see what message it sends. Our voice can allow us to negotiate, be assertive but respectful, share our opinion and voice our rights. Make sure you use a respectful manner when you are speaking up for what you believe in.
Our Hilly Kid for the ‘Resilience’ topic from Term 2 was Ava from 5-6K and our Aussie of the Month for June was Matilda from P-1P. Congratulations, Ava and Matilda!
Well done to our other class representatives:

School Photos
School photos are on Tuesday morning, August 17th. Order forms were sent home with all students last week.
Kinder Children
Kinder children will have their photos taken in the FIRST time slot so they should come in the morning at 8:55am sharp. If you are late, you may not make the class group photo. Please ask Miss Miller if you have any questions about this arrangement.
Sibling Photos
Please collect an envelope from the school office if you would like a sibling photo. These can be ordered with cash in the envelope returned to school or online with card or Paypal. All children in the sibling photo must attend this school.
Late Fee
There may be a late fee for all orders received after photo day. Photos will not be printed for any orders received without payment until payment is received. The school does not deal with any late orders. They must be directed to MSP Photography.
General Information
- Complete the information on all envelopes and return it to school ASAP with payment before photo day.
- Please ask at the office if you require a duplicate envelope for the second parent or a sibling photo envelope.
- Do not seal envelopes inside each other - you can pay for all your children in one envelope or by online ordering; however, each child needs to have their own separate envelope on photo day. If you wish to order photos, tick the required box on each child’s envelope, even if the payment is in another envelope.
- Please enclose correct money as NO change will be given. The school office will NOT make change. Only cash is accepted in the envelopes – no cheques. Credit cards can only be used for online order payments. Make sure you tear the order form at the perforation and then seal the envelope if enclosing money.
- All children will have their photo taken on the day, whether parents intend to purchase any or not, so all students need to wear full school uniform, including a school jumper. Teachers will encourage students to comb their hair and ensure their clothing is neat.
- There is a very generous discount on all orders placed online that total over $100. This discount is ONLY available for online orders and cannot be claimed AFTER photo day.

Dream Big Competition
What an opportunity!!!!!
I love sharing good news!
Last term, as part of our work on Growth, the students in 5/6 K entered a competition organised by The Advocate Newspaper and UTAS in Burnie. It was called Dream Big. Students were asked to draw a picture of what they wanted to do when they grow up. We had some outstanding pieces of work submitted. Maya Pointon, Lily Harrison and Jehanne Clark were all selected as Runners Up in their categories! No matter where life takes them….we are very proud of them!

5¢ Coin Challenge
During Term 2, classes collected 5¢ coins as a school fundraiser. The challenge has now finished, the coins have been hauled to the bank and fed into the exhausted coin counting machine and the tallies are in. The winning class, with a total of $250.90, is 3-4B!! That is an amazing 5,018 5¢ coins collected! What an effort!
The final total from all classes is $728.50. Whilst we didn’t beat our 2019 record, it’s still an astounding 14,570 coins!!
Thank you for your donations!

Sunrise Bakery Pie Drive
The final tally for the Sunrise Bakery Pie Drive was over $2,400!! What an absolutely amazing effort! Everyone who contributed to this amazing amount should be very proud of their efforts!

Tuckerbox Tips
How to pack a rubbish-free lunch:
- Focus on fresh fruit and vegetables – most fruit and vegetables don’t need packaging and the scraps can be composted.
- Avoid single serve packaged items – reduce waste and save money by buying in larger quantities.
- Use reusable containers – pack everyday food in them and don’t forget to name them.
- Get the kids involved – let them help decide what to take. This can save you time and children enjoy taking responsibility.
What is ‘rubbish-free’? Items that can be composted or recycled – no plastic wrap, foil, plastic zip bags, disposable utensils or packaged food. Take it one step at a time!

Move Well Eat Well
How does your family grow?
Most of us need a reminder to eat more fruit and vegetables. Some ways to increase your family’s intake include:
- Shop in season for fruit and vegetables for the cheapest price
- Keep fresh, tinned and frozen fruit and vegetables ready to eat at home
- Add extra fruit and vegetables to recipes and meals
- Involve kids in growing, shopping, preparing and cooking fruit and vegetables
- Enjoy eating fruit and vegetables together as a family and watch your family grow!
