School Fair
What a great success with the School Fair on the weekend! It was fantastic to see so many people participating and the weather was kind to us. There was a positive buzz and obviously our community was keen to be out and about and getting involved. Thanks go to everyone who helped make the fair a success. A special thanks go to our Fair Committee who worked tirelessly to make it a fun day for everyone. Congratulations also go to our raffle winners. Well done, everyone!
Professional Learning Day – students do not attend school
A reminder that next Friday, 29th October, is a Professional Learning Day for staff. We will be working on reviewing the year and planning for 2022. Staff will also be undertaking reading PL in the afternoon. Students do not attend on this day. A reminder, also, that the following Monday, November 1st, is Recreation Day, a public holiday in the north of the state.
Be SunSmart!
As we move into the warmer months and UV is rising, we need to consider being sun-safe at all times. Don’t forget to send your child with their hat and sunscreen. Sunglasses are also a recommendation, but not compulsory. If you have any questions regarding our SunSmart policy, please contact the office.

Hilly Kids Are Friendly Kids
Our current Hilly Kids focus topic is Doing Your Best. Our next focus topic for term 4 will be Consequences.
Consequences
Whatever we choose to do, there will always be consequences. If you play outside in the rain, you will get wet, and your parents will probably not be happy. If you stay up late, the next morning you will not feel like getting up. If you play football inside there is a good chance you’ll break something. That is not very smart. Better to play outside or in the park.
Consequences are natural. The difficult part is trying to work out what the consequences are before you make your choices. It is a good idea to take a bit of time to THINK first! THINK about consequences before you act.
Our Hilly Kid for the ‘Problem Solving’ topic was Heath from 3-4B and our Aussie of the Month for September was James from P/1P. Congratulations, Heath and James!

School Fair
After some woeful weather and a wonky week, we woke to a wonderful Saturday – glorious weather and a fair to have fun at! Hopefully everyone had a great time and made a selection from the cake stall, got their faces painted, tasted some fairy floss, “Picked Your Nose”, “Tossed a Toilet Roll”, got a scare in the Haunted Room, jumped on the castle and checked out a baby goat…. all with the amazing musical talent of Halfway to Forth, Crescendo Choir and Band, Melinda Powell and our own school choir entertaining us in the fabulous Don River Yurt Co yurt!
A HUGE thankyou to all our staff, families and volunteers who helped set up and run the stalls! A big thankyou also to our community and local businesses that generously donated to the school to make our fair so successful!

Grade 3-4 Sports Expo
On Monday, October 18th, our grade 3/4 students participated in the Devonport Sports Expo held at Meercroft Park. It was a day where the students got to sample some of the various types of sports offered in our community. They were able to learn new rules, new skills, new sports and, overall, have fun mixing with other primary schools.
At Meercroft Park we had the opportunity to participate in hockey - where we learnt to dribble the ball around cones, shoot for a goal and stop the ball; rugby, touch football, tennis, cricket, football, table tennis - where we learnt to hit the balloon over the net and to score; soccer - where we learnt that it is best to use the inside of your foot because you have more control of the ball, and little athletics - where we learnt more about the different jumping styles and the correct way to stand when starting to race. We all had a great day, and the weather wasn’t too bad.

Here are some of our opinions about the 3/4 sports expo:
Hayley: “It was fun. I enjoyed trying different sports. I enjoyed soccer.”
Penny: “It was fun. I enjoyed doing hockey.”
Heath: “It was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it. It is something I would do again. I enjoyed learning new skills about all of the sports.”
Jackson: “It was fun. I could keep doing it again. I liked the hockey and table tennis.”
Ava: “I liked learning about all of the new sports because I haven’t done it before. I enjoyed the cricket, tennis and touch footy. I didn’t really like AFL.”
Caleb: “I liked the cricket and football and I didn’t mind the tennis. I didn’t really like the touch football.”
Laylah: “I enjoyed it. It was fun before it started raining. I enjoyed playing tennis.”
Maddi: “I really enjoyed the whole day. It was heaps of fun and I enjoyed learning about the new sports.”
Bandanna Day – October 28
Bandanna Day is the biggest fundraising and awareness campaign for Canteen. We are selling bandannas at the school office from now until we are sold out. Bandannas are $5 and there are many patterns available. There is also an option to pay with card via a QR code.
As Bandanna Day, Oct 29, is a professional learning day at school, we should all wear our bandannas on Thursday, October 28!

Get Your Family Outside!
Now that spring is here and the weather is warming up, get the family outside and into the backyard!
- Get out into the garden. Everyone can pitch in weeding, trimming and planting. Plant a flower bed and let the kids select the seedlings you put in.
- Plant out a vegetable patch. Kids love to pick and eat food they have grown themselves and tending the beds is a great pastime.
- Build a cubbyhouse or renovate the old one.
- Play hide and seek or chasing games.
- Have a picnic lunch or afternoon tea.
- Wash the dog together.
- Play on the playground equipment with them instead of just watching.
