Professional Learning Day
Staff worked together on the Professional Learning Day last Friday, to start our Annual Review and plan for 2022. In the afternoon, teachers had a great session about teaching Reading. It was a very productive day!
Growing Up Program
Below is some information regarding the upcoming ‘Growing Up’ program for grade 3-6, being run by Family Planning Tasmania at our school from 15th-18th November. There will be a parent information session on Monday, November 15th from 8:30-9am in the school library if you would like more information. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
2022 Planning
If parents have a particular request regarding their child for 2022, can you please contact the office to make an appointment. We try and meet requests where possible, but a range of factors contribute to how classes are structured. We will soon be making decisions regarding classes so if you have a request, please make an appointment to see me prior to Wednesday, 24th November.
Kinder 2022
If families are aware of any children in our area who will be turning 4 by the 1st of January 2022, can you please encourage them to enquire about enrolling in our Kinder for next year. We are planning our Kinder provision now, so your support is appreciated!
New Staff
I am very happy to welcome new staff to our team in 2022 - welcome to Jane Lewis, Chelsea Sims, Rebecca Melhuish and Charlotte Shephard. Further advice regarding classes will be confirmed at a later stage, when finalised. Farewells will also be announced later in the term.

Hilly Kids Are Friendly Kids
Our current Hilly Kids focus topic is Consequences. Our next focus topic for term 4 will be Including Others.
Including Others
Including others in your games and activities makes everyone feel good. It means that you are generous and willing to share your time with others and care about their feelings. If you include others in your games, they are more likely to include you when you are looking for someone to play with or talk to.
If you are not already doing so, try looking around to see if there are others who might like to join in. Sometimes they might not even ask to join in, but just stand close by - try to include them. If you see someone standing off alone – try to include them. If there is a new student at school – try to include them. If someone is being teased – try to include them. There are always opportunities to include others, so try to be the person who sets a good example to your fellow students by being kind and thoughtful by including others in your activities.
Our Hilly Kid for the ‘Doing Your Best’ topic was Myha from 5-6F. Congratulations, Myha!
Well done to our other class representatives:

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes
We participated in the Operation Christmas Child project again this year. Thank you to everyone who had a ‘Crazy Hair’ day last term and donated a gold coin towards this effort.
We also had donations of knitted and crocheted beanies and toys to add to the boxes. Our pile of boxes has been delivered to the drop off point.
Everyone’s generosity is greatly appreciated as this project provides support for children around the world who are victims of war, poverty, famine and disease.

2022 Calendar
Have you ordered your calendar(s) yet? All families were sent home an order form for a 2022 calendar featuring your child’s artwork. They would make great Christmas gifts for family members! To order, please fill out the form and return it to the school office ASAP. Calendars will not be printed until they are paid for.

Christmas Raffle
Ticket books for our Christmas Raffle were sent home with students earlier this week. Please sell them to family and friends and return the stubs, with the money, in a sealed bag to the school office by Friday, December 3rd.
The raffle will be drawn on Thursday, December 9th. There are extra books available from the school office. Please return books before requesting new ones.

Prep-1 Parker
Inquiry Focus
In Prep/1 Parker we have started an inquiry about sustainability with the Inquiry Focus: Globally responsible citizens sustain life on Earth through understanding their environmental footprint. We have begun to find out about materials by describing materials by their properties, what materials are made from and what happens to rubbish when we are finished with it, for example, recycling waste or compost.
To commence the Inquiry, I used a provocation such as a talking tub to find out what students knew about the objects, what connections they could make and what wonderings they had about the objects. Students were highly engaged and lots of rich discussions amongst the children occurred. The students have been sharing their knowledge of how we can minimise waste and ensure the correct materials are recycled to minimise landfill.

Launching into Learning
What a fun start term 4 has started off to be! In the pre-kinder sessions, our focus has been on name recognition and personal hygiene.
Our Nature Play sessions are back in full swing and this week we explored the use of mud to make marks.
Our Friday sessions are always a chilled way for families to catch up and play with each other!

Tuckerbox News
Fresh fruit and vegetables are better than juice drinks. Too much juice can provide too many natural sugars, which can lead to a range of problems such as tooth decay, weight gain or a poor appetite for food. If you do offer your child fruit juice, use 100% juice and dilute it with water and limit it to one small glass a day. Soft drinks, cordial, sports drinks and fruit juice drinks are not needed as they are full of sugar and offer little else in terms of nutrition.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are better options to:
- Help with skill development, such as peeling and chewing
- Teach about different food textures, colours and tastes
- Add variety to the overall diet
- Provide an easy, healthy and filling snack
- Supply fibre

Fun Family Activity Ideas:
- Instead of heading straight home, go by the park after school so kids aren’t tempted by the TV. Remember to take some healthy snacks & lots of water!
- Swimming is a great family activity. Head to the pool or, if you’re lucky, the beach. It’s also suitable for the whole family & a really important skill for the kids to have.
- Get the whole family washing the car. It’s a good way to burn off some energy!
- Get crafty! Make a kite together & then get outside to test fly it.
