From the Principal
It was great to see so many families come along to cheer on our students at our Cross-Country event last week. Thanks go to Davis Forward for organising the event – well done! As you may be aware, some of our runners were then selected to participate in the NWPSSA Cross Country Event, held in Ulverstone yesterday. Well done to all our runners, who represented the school very positively.
Mid-Year Reporting
3-way conferences will look a little different this year. We are trialling an online booking system, through Schoolzine. More information, including instructions on how to make a booking, will be sent home next week. 3-way conferences are an important time for students, families, and teachers to meet to discuss progress, as well as plan for future learning. We would appreciate catching up with all families, so don’t forget to make a booking! 3-way conferences will be held in the week 9 and 10, beginning 27th June. Families of kinder students will also be meeting during the next few weeks.
Student reports will be sent home on Friday, 24th June. Information regarding the new reporting process, has been attached to this newsletter. Please spend the time to go through the report with your child. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, feel free to discuss with your child’s teacher.

Mid-Year Reporting
A reminder to families that mid-year reports will be distributed on Friday, 24 June.
The new look report will show your child’s learning achievement differently. A new 9-point visual scale replaces A-E ratings for students in Years 1 to 10 (and for Prep students at the end of the year).
The 9-point scale will show more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
There will be no teacher comments on the report. This term parent/teacher conferences will be offered in Week 9 and 10. These are a great opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning.

Doing Your Best
It is important to do your best in everything that you do! It involves developing personal qualities of never giving up, having another go and being persistent if you don't achieve it the first time.
By always doing your best, you can feel proud, knowing that there was nothing more that you could have done to achieve your goal. It doesn't matter whether you come first or last, it’s more important to know that you did your very best in whatever you are doing!

Hands On Learning News!
Last Monday we had our first Monday Market, and it was very successful. The fresh produce and flower bunches being very popular. It was fun to create and gather all the items we planned to sell. Lots of customers came to see what was for sale and what the stall looked like. The next Monday Market will be on the 27th of June. Hope to see you!

What’s Been Happening in 3-4 Bonner?
In 3/4B Maths time, we have been learning about measurement. We used concrete manipulatives to help solidify our understanding of measuring with formal (blocks, feet, hands, pencils, counters) and formal units (rulers, measuring tapes). We measured objects and heights in centimetres and metres. We read the book ‘Actual Size’ by, Steve Jenkins and we were really surprised to draw the animals both large and small, and at their actual size.
We used scales to weigh objects. We were trying to read the measurements on both digital and balancing scales. We liked the challenge of comparing items to weigh 1 kilogram.
We really enjoyed measuring capacity in a water trough with Mrs Chettle. There certainly was a lot of water. After we established empty, full and half full of the different containers we started to read actual measurements in millilitres and litres.

Tuckerbox Tips
To make sandwiches more interesting, vary the breads and fillings. Try some of the following ideas:
- Use different types of breads. Try wholemeal, high fibre white, sourdough, pita, bagels or wraps
- Try crackers and crispbreads for a change
- Add different vegetables in different ways: grated carrot, finely sliced cucumber, celery and different types of lettuce
- Use different protein fillings instead of ham and chicken. Try roast beef, sliced turkey and sliced egg
- Add different flavours. Try mustard, small amounts of Vegemite, mayonnaise, chutney and hummus. You can also add herbs and spices such as chopped parsley, chives or curry powder. Don’t add salt!

Swap Screens for Active Play After School
Now that we’re back at school, and with some ‘stay home’ isolating restrictions still applying, take advantage of any good weather and swap screens for active play after school. Swap screens for:
- Building a cubby, castle, or fort in the backyard
- Backyard cricket, basketball or frisbee
- Chalk drawing on the driveway or path
- Visiting a park or walking the dog
- Dancing to music or making up a dance routine
- Hallway bowling with a soft ball and plastic bottles
- Obstacle course using cushions, blankets, and boxes
